MODERN EXTENDED FAMILY HOME - VANCOUVER
More and more of our clients are planning for a future where they may have their aging parents, adult children or other extended family live with them. We like to call it multi-generational living. This amazing family came to us with plans to build this home their son in law designed for them. It was a privilege to be part of this exciting project as the main home and secondary suite were not laid out in the usual way. He designed the home to provide a front/back solution where the parents would occupy the front and their adult daughter and growing young family would reside in the back half of the home, which is the legal secondary suite.
The clients were ahead of the trends we are now seeing everywhere, beautifully mixing white and wood stained cabinets in the kitchen. The minimalist style takes your eyes to the brilliantly engineered staircase that appears to suspend over the dining room, giving a more open feel. The natural feel of the gorgeous oiled wood floors stand up to the kids being kids. Details like strategically placed floor electrical outlets give the homeowners flexibility to place lamps where they wish, and plug in a laptop where cords are not a tripping hazard. The amazing powder room features a low profile toilet, and an unbelievably small but functional sink, reminiscent of a high style lavoratory on a jet plane, making the most of the space allocated!
The exterior is an amazing feat of engineering with suspended and exposed concrete. We love the concrete front porch suspended over the window well below. The sunken concrete well at the front is a sneaky place for dad to walk out of his man cave in the basement. The cool grey exterior contrasts the clear fir doors and cedar soffits. The finest of details such as the lighting in the concrete sidewalk and walls, clear aluminum railings and the most amazing yellow mailbox up front and center brighten up this already lovely neighborhood!
