NORTH VAN RETRO
This unique home was one of three homes designed and built by the students of Architecture at the University of British Columbia in the early 1950's. The new owners wanted to retain the character of the home while upgrading the home's efficiency and functionality. We did this by upgrading all of the walls and ceiling, making the walls thicker to allow for higher R-value of insulation. We installed new 1.4 U-value windows and doors along with a heat recovery ventilator (HRV) system, and a high efficiency on demand hot water system with radiant heat. The original fir ceilings required us to custom mill new sections inside and out.
